This project combined modern construction with the sensitive restoration of the original stone features and iconic clocktower, preserving the school’s heritage while supporting its future.
Stone restoration and full new build construction of an educational facility
We were contracted to carry out a range of works on the Harris Academy project in Dundee, a major new-build high school development that also involved the careful restoration of historic architectural elements. Our role on the project included the full brick and blockwork package, extensive joinery works, and the restoration of the original stonework and iconic clocktower—key features of the old school building that were retained as part of the new design.
The brick and block package involved constructing the internal and external walls of the new school building, using a combination of modern construction techniques and materials to ensure durability, thermal performance, and aesthetic quality. Our team worked closely with the main contractor and other trades to deliver high-quality masonry work within tight programme deadlines.
In addition to the new build, a significant aspect of our work focused on the restoration of the historic stone façade and clocktower, preserving the heritage of the original school structure. This required careful dismantling, cleaning, and reinstatement of existing stone, along with sensitive repairs using traditional methods and materials to ensure a seamless blend between old and new. The clocktower, a much-loved feature of the original building, was fully restored and integrated into the new campus as a visual focal point.
Our joinery package covered a wide range of internal works, including the installation of doors, frames, skirtings, and bespoke timber features throughout the new school. Every element was completed to a high standard, contributing to the overall finish and functionality of the building.
The completed Harris Academy is now a standout education facility that blends modern design with historic character. We are proud to have played a key role in delivering a project that respects the past while serving the future needs of students and staff.
